I have never been more anxious for a summer to end in all my life. this summer has been slower than we expected but not slower than we planned for. the only other time i was close to this not thrilled with a summer was 2 years ago when we opened Stingray, down the beach. Fuck resort work. Fuck it right in the ass. The only way ill step foot into a kitchen in a resort town is if i am either visiting it, or owning it.
Anybody have a different story or is this the consensus?
also, not drinking is way friggin over rated. just saying.

Your not drinking?
I have often thought resort work might be cool. Work four months off for eight. But I get bored easily, and idle hands spend time on the genitals. After nine days ina row I get very irritable, I wonder how mad I would be after 4 months straight?
Imagine working in Lake Tahoe, a resort town that has year round business.
just taking a bit of a break. until lastnight. lots of gin. back to the wagon with me.
i assume the year round resort towns are better since they plan on always being busy. its when you have to plan on that down time and going anemic with the staff that makes for a shitty situation. you gotta be there constantly to make any money at all. i can dig getting the cash flow from a summer store but im getting too old to do that for anybody other than myself.
Resort work can be great if you can manage your life around the busy season. Currently I work on average 13 hour days, and 6 days/week. I do take a short day on the 6th day. I feel naughty taking it.
During the summer I don't see nearly enough of my wonderfully supportive girlfriend, my other two friends, or my family who probably don't even remember my name.
During the winter I do what I can to make up for it. I spend as much time with my loved ones. I snowboard. I travel a bit. I rest my ass off.
I've been doing the seasonal resort thing for 5 years now. I convince myself that each summer will be more controlled than the last. I'm always wrong. We broke another record last week. $132k in sales in one fucking week. It will always get busier every year.
A more temperate flow of business throughout the year would be easier to deal with, that is true. It all depends on what we want out of our kitchen experience. Our restaurants will never get busy enough or slow down enough to suit our needs. As representatives of the Hospitality Industry we will always get shat on no matter what season it is.
