I rolled in to work at 845 Saturday morning and got to working on catering orders and dinner prep. At 1130 found out that the EC would be coming in at normal time. Well he was an hour late and did nothing but tell everyone how sick he was the day before. And when I say nothing I mean he never got this cutting board or side towels dirty. He walked around and around. Then he told me about previous nights playoff baseball game he watched.
On the rare occasion I call out sick I certainly do everything I can when I return to work. Come in early, send others home early, clean everything. I would feel bad that I was not there for my teammates. How can people do that? How can a Manager/EC do that? I might not ever learn the answer but I know no one will gain any respect from me if they pull that shit.

i never call in sick. i show up and get sent home. if you're really sick, working in a kitchen is about the worst thing you can do. no matter how clean you work, you can't help but breathe on everything. and you could get all the other cooks sick, which would be just as bad as getting a customer sick. when you're sick you're sick...it happens. but calling in? that's for amateurs.
ps did anybody else notice all the watches on here the other day?
So you do not get sick at all then? You have never had one of those 24 hour bugs that just passes? You have never been fortunate enough to have influenza? Never been really sick? What's the secret, because I would like to get rid of this current cold I have. Just saying because you say you never call in sick.... :)
@Pasta D- Mikey is right. You go to work and get sent home. If you get a sick a lot maybe you should look at how well you take care of yourself.
I bought one of those watches...
True, but have you never been so sick where you couldn't even open your eyes, let alone get out of bed? Or where as soon as you stand up a pain shoots through your stomach and you have to sit back down on the throne? However, that is bs that he puled that. power trip
Your watches all shipped this morning. Thanks again.
In early September I got the first fever I'd had in years. I was in denial until I was half passed out next to the chargrill with 102 degree and rising temperature. It wasn't until the staff sent my ass home that I got up and left (was driven home). In retrospect It was selfish for me to be there in that condition. I could have made others sick and could have hurt myself or my staff. Sometimes we want to tough it out and feel guilty for being sick. Its more important to be honest with yourself and get YOUR SHIFT COVERED so the restaurant and guest experience are not compromised.
I couldn't agree with you more. I just felt that you left your comment open, even though I knew what you meant, and tried to get you going. It has been a while since people posted stuff.
I've been through the staff phone tree sixteen fucking times and I still can't get my shift covered. What now?
